The FemTech space is defined as new technology created to address women’s health, and it is forecast to be worth $100 billion by 2030, according to PitchBook (2022). While that is wonderful, it covers a very broad swath of user needs, and so I wanted to look at the part of a woman’s body that goes through so many stages of change and experiences: the vagina. Not everyone will experience all parts of this journey, but every moment in this journey is an expected part of what a vagina will experience with no medical pathology.
I call it VagTech.
We have seen investment in Women+ Health increasing, which is very welcome, but it's clear that investment is not evenly distributed. Through my research we can see that there are plenty of areas where designing for women+ bodies and experiences are perhaps less understood, and therefore less attractive.
From this map it's easy to see lots of opportunity to build on the success of these companies and create even more new offers for women’s vaginas - throughout their healthy lifecycle.
